Hannah Ground

After a year teaching English abroad, I moved to London to complete an MA in Education, Policy and Society.

This course deepened my understanding of inequalities within education and of the challenges of educational policy and provision. This sparked my desire to follow a career in the education and charity sector and help level the playing field for young people. I’ve always felt passionate about the power of volunteering as a social good. I have done various roles from teaching Sex and Relationships Education to volunteering at a kid’s coding club. I was aware of Action Tutoring’s work from volunteer tutoring during my undergraduate degree and signing up during my masters was a fantastic way to give back to my community. I applied for a paid role at Action Tutoring as a Programme Coordinator in 2019 and developed skills in relationship building, planning, leadership and communications. In 2021, I began my current role as Programme Manager. I mange a group of up to 7 Programme Coordinators, who are each responsible for leading a pool of 50-60 volunteer tutors across a caseload of up to 7 schools. I support them to lead their tutors to achieve our mission, while I deepen relationships with school leaders in the community and collaborate with our department leads to ensure our processes run smoothly. Overall, my career choices have all been motivated by the desire to make positive social changes through education. I am dedicated to making further contributions to this sector throughout my career.
