Rising Star Awards' Knowledge Sharing Day 2023

RISING STARS KNOWLEDGE SHARING DAY: EMBRACE CHANGE

On 29th September, WeAreTheCity gathered their 2023 Rising Star winners for a day of knowledge sharing at Warwick Business School.

The day began with a networking lunch where all winners had the opportunity to meet their peers and share their individual stories. The rest of the afternoon provided a series of keynotes from Warwick’s professors alongside a workshop on team building and trust.

We would like to thank Rebecca Evans and her team at Warwick for their impeccable hosting, and to Professor Dr Harveen Chugh (Rising Star winner), Professor Dr Dimitrios Spyridonidis, and Rupali Sharma-Patel (Rising Star winner) for their awesome keynotes on entrepreneurship, dealing with change, resilience and leadership. We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to the founders of The Audax Generation, Fidel and Martin who ran such an interactive and impactful workshop for our winners.

DR HARVEEN CHUGH, ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP AT WARWICK BUSINESS SCHOOL AND CO-FOUNDER OF THE NETWORK FOR COACHING AND MENTORING ENTREPRENEURS

Harveen specialises in teaching entrepreneurship and developing the practice of coaching and mentoring for entrepreneurs. She has previously set up her own company, designing entrepreneurship programmes for universities and accelerators, and has been a Growth Manager on a UK government programme, managing a portfolio of 25 startups.

She won the WeAreTheCity Rising Star award in 2023 in the Editor’s Choice category, which recognises the female talent pipeline. Harveen has prior teaching experience from Imperial College London, Royal Holloway and LSE on MBA, Masters and Undergraduate programmes. She received the WBS Award for Outstanding Contribution to Teaching in both 2022 and 2021, two National Enterprise Educator Awards for Enterprise Catalyst and People’s Choice in 2020, and was named as one of the Best 40 Under 40 Business School Professors by Poets&Quants in 2019.

DR DIMITRIOS SPYRIDONIDIS, ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF LEADERSHIP AND INNOVATION AT WARWICK BUSINESS SCHOOL

Dimitrios’ core research interests are Leadership and Innovation. Within these, current themes include leadership and leadership development, innovation, and strategic change, with a focus on the UK NHS and other healthcare systems (including China, Australia and the USA). Dimitrios is also involved in leadership research focused on other professional services, primarily financial services in China. His research has been published in leading academic journals including Organization Studies, Public Administration and Human Relations.

At Warwick Business School, Dimitrios is the Programme Director of the Executive MBA (London) and the Executive Diploma in Strategic Leadership & Change. Prior to joining Warwick Business School, Dimitrios worked at both Henley Business School and Imperial College London. He has taught leadership and leadership development around the globe including Ireland, Finland, Denmark, South Africa, Malaysia and Hong Kong.

RUPALI SHARMA-PATEL, HEAD OF ASSISTED TRANSPORT, TRANSPORT FOR LONDON

As Head of Assisted Transport at TFL, Rupali is responsible for the strategic development of London’s Assisted Transport services, to deliver an improved transport provision for older and disabled Londoners. She is an Architect and over the last 20 years has contributed to the design and delivery of several infrastructure projects in UK and abroad. Rupali is committed to championing diversity and inclusion within the industry and has led several initiatives to increase representation of protected groups.

In addition to this, Rupali is currently pursuing an Executive MBA at Warwick Business School. She was a Rising Star Award Winner 2022 and was a Highly Commended Finalist in the Asian Women of Achievement Awards 2022 and the WE50 2021.

MARTIN SOLWAY & FIDEL TORREIRO – CO-FOUNDERS, THE AUDAX GENERATION

Martin and Fidel are on a mission to “unlock Teams’ human potential to fulfil their purpose.”

Throughout their journey they have learnt, sometimes the hard way, that no matter the organisation, it is all about people, their talents and how those are nurtured and combined to thrive in the pursuit of a greater purpose.

Today, teams are dynamic, diverse, ever evolving. Looking to help teams’ unlock their combined potential, Martin and Fidel founded The Audax Generation, that delivers immersive experiences bespoke to the team’s needs.

Martin and Fidel have over fifty years combined experience in various strategic roles in the Energy and Pharmaceutical Sectors. Both have an MBA, Martin from Warwick Business School and Fidel from Henley Business School. Both are qualified and practicing coaches.
