Tipswalo is an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with a vision for safe and equitable maternity care.
Since completing specialty training, she has dedicated herself to creating an enhanced and more inclusive environment for service users and maternity staff.
She is passionate about clinical governance and effecting system change and is part of a multidisciplinary perinatal team who won the 2023 HSJ Patient Safety Award for Developing a Positive Safety Culture Award and the 2023 NHS Wales Award for Improving Patient Safety. She is a PERIPrem Cymru Obstetric champion, advocating for progresses in standardisation in the management of preterm birth. She is involved in facilitating improvements in bereavement care and support for those affected by clinical incidents in maternity services to ensure families can be assured of honest reviews and staff can be involved in implementation of meaningful changes.
She is heavily involved in education and has developed several interactive learning resources to enable engagement of learners at every level. She teaches on the Health Education and Improvement Wales Step Up Programme for specialty trainees progressing to higher levels.
She organised, chaired and spoke at the Race Matters in Maternity Conference in 2023; the first Welsh event to focus on highlighting and improving the experiences of women from minority racial, ethnic and cultural heritage groups. She was a finalist in the Clinical Champion category in the 2022 National B.A.M.E Health and Care Awards and was Highly Commended in the Maternal Health Advocate of the Year category at the 2024 Cura-H Awards.
