Shivani Pethe | Wonderlab

Shivani Pethe
From the childhood itself I always thought that I was in love with science and its marvelous discoveries but I never understood why almost majority of my friends disliked it? When I thought deeply over it, I realised that it was due to my parents who practically showed me every experiment related to my textbook at home, which helped me immensely to understand the details of science. When the child is taken away from toys, he is detached from science. These words of Pratap Raychaudhari, an experimentalist from TIFR, were a great inspiration for me. When I started my graduation in physics at Fergusson college, Pune, I always thought how science can be made fun and interesting for children. When I entered Pune University for post graduation I came across Dr. Arvind Gupta's project "toys from trash". And that was the moment I thought about WONDERLAB. WONDERLAB workshops aim to fulfill the curiosity of all kinds of children be it "visual ordinary or kinesthetic ". According to current education system approximately 66% of students are benifited but the remaining students who are kinesthetic do not get hands on experience in science and so they dislike science. WONDERLAB is trying to make science fun and maintain the curiosity about science in children.

Never let go of your dreams, because dreams don’t lie.

Quoting a line from the book I authored – Laughing Daffodils.

If you can dream it, you can do it. And I believe in doing it all passionately. Be it changing rules in school as Head girl, or institutionalizing the placement cell in undergrad, or starting The Literary Club in IMI, New Delhi or working with women, girl children in NGOs. It could also be learning to play the guitar, practicing yoga, travelling to new places or helping youngsters achieve their dreams. Or publishing a book.

Or be it trying new things at work – constantly challenging myself to achieve newer and greater heights. I have worked on several national and international projects that have been awarded both, within the company and outside. I partner with approximately 2000 employees as a People Leader, and my attempt is to augment the value proposition for each employee.

And I believe none of these things are ever possible without a superb support system – a loving family, an amazing team, a wonderful set of friends, and a demanding set of clients – who teach me something, every day.

I believe in a bigger and better world, and I know each of us has a role to play. I dream of a world in which I am in a position of power and responsibility, enabling careers and lives of many people, having authored many more books, the owner of a dog shelter…. and a lot more.

… Miles to go before I sleep.

Our verticals include consultancy, learning and coaching. This is a totally new concept for India because we go into depths of what people know intuitively, based on solid science. Launching online classes and book in coming few months. Starting a psychophysiological lab a year from now. Lots of investment for me, but I am focused and I know by having built a rock solid team, we will reach there soon!

Dhara Mehta

Dhara Mehta | The Kids Company

Dhara Mehta

Back in 2008, an M.B.A. working in a MNC, I was unaware that the sabbatical taken then to embrace motherhood will be my final goodbye to the corporate world!

While I was raising my son I picked up a very important insight, ‘Play is the work of childhood and the highest form of education’

On observing mommies & children around I realised that while play was a part of a child's routine it was often used by caregivers as a form of relaxation or break from learning. However as a mother I realised that PLAY was the best educational tool an adult could have!

This thought ignited a spark in me - to create a service which could bridge this gap of play & learning. It sounded vague to many but I believed in my dream.

I took up a formal course & worked in a daycare cum activity centre. The formal course & practical experience both reinforced my belief & in 2013 'The Kids Company’ was born.

Today I am a hands on mommy, a qualified E.C.C. Ed & a passionate entrepreneur.

Starting off with just 2 kids, I have reached out to hundreds of kids not only from the vicinity but a lot of NRI kids too.

Being featured in the leading dailes of Mumbai & bagging some Kids & Mothers choice awards with loads of positive parent testimones surely reassures my belief, ‘follow your passion and you will never fail!’
