Nuthana is the first person in her family to have studied medicine, and has been conscious of helping others in their careers since she was a medical student.
Nuthana is a training in paediatrics and is passionate about educating and empowering children and their families to live healthy lives.
Following her interest in supporting other medical women, Nuthana has been elected to the Council of the Medical Women’s Federation (MWF) , the largest body of women doctors, since 2018. In 2021, she was elected Vice President, the first trainee doctor to be elected to the role. She has just been re-elected for a second term.
Nuthana had the initiative to start the world’s first podcast aimed at supporting and empowering medical women in their careers, The Medical Women Podcast. So far Nuthana has hosted and produced over 50 episodes with over 6,500 listens in over 50 countries. She is currently busy planning Season 4 of the podcast. Feedback on the podcast has been that it has supported those returning to work after a break, de-stigmatises doctor’s mental health, has helped medical students transition to being doctors. Nuthana does all of this work on the podcast in her own time, whilst working on busy clinical rotas.
Nuthana lifts as she climbs by mentoring and supporting junior medical women to organise local networking events and chairing sessions at MWF conferences.
Feedback from colleagues has been that she always looks after and values any team she is part of.
