Jacynth Bassett | the-Bias-Cut.com
Jacynth Bassett is the founder of the-Bias-Cut.com - the first age inclusive online independent fashion boutique – and the movement Ageism Is Never In Style®.
After studying Law at Cambridge, where she was also President of the Law Society, Jacynth used her minimal savings to found the-Bias-Cut.com, having grown frustrated at seeing women, like her mum, being treated as invisible or irrelevant by the Fashion Industry, largely due to their age. From independently developing, launching and running the-Bias-Cut.com in 2016, today it has over 30 labels, including Jacynth's eponymous label, and a global customer base.
Jacynth herself has swiftly become recognised as one of the leading advocates of style at every age, having been named as an 'Ageism-Fighting Trailblazer' by Global Health Ageing. She regularly writes, speaks and commentates on the topic for various leading national publications, including The Guardian, New Statesman and Business Insider, for several 40+ online platforms, and chaired the “Fashion Fades, Only Style Remains” talk for the (B)old Festival 2018 at the Southbank Centre, London. She also supports and aids charities, organisations and entrepreneurs tackling ageism, and is the founder & chair of 'Advocates For Ageing' - a global collective of professionals changing the conversation around ageing.
Tracey Blake | Student Nannies
I am an accidental entrepreneur!
I began my career as a journalist in contract magazine publishing and then moved to Associated Newspapers where I spent 12 years as a senior editor working on the Daily Mail, Femail, Mail On Sunday, Weekend, London Lite, Mail Plus (the digital editions) and at Metro. I still write a parenting blog called Small Talk on the MailOnline website.
During this time I also became a parenting author! In 2013 I wrote Small Talk: Simple ways to boost your child's speech and language development from birth (Macmillan) with my co-author and friend Nicola Lathey. It was published in the US in 2014. In 2016 we wrote two speech-boosting picture books which were sold in M&S and have recently been published in Spain.
As a working my of two with a stressful job, I experienced the childcare crisis first hand when I couldn’t find any after-school help for my two children on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Childminders wanted to finish at 6pm but I didn’t get home til 7.30/8pm; professional nannies wanted a full day, not 4 hours. I was stuck and getting increasingly desperate.
Then I heard two students talking in my train station waiting room and I said, “Do you live locally and are either of you interested in some babysitting work?” One of them, Louise, said yes, we swapped numbers and after a chat at our house we hired her. Louise was an art foundation student and did amazing craft projects with the children so there was always something for me to admire when I got home. It was such a good fit for us that when Louise left I wanted to find another student but as a 40-year old woman I couldn’t reach into that network. So https://studentnannies.com/ was born as a side gig in 2016!
I am now working full time on Student Nannies with a vision of making the juggle between being a parent and having a career just a little bit less of a struggle.

Gemma Wall | The Contemporary PA
For almost 10 years, I had worked for a Law firm in Dorset, beginning her journey with them as an Office Junior, working her way up to Office Manager and doing everything in between.
After an opportunity arose in Birmingham, I began working for a co-working space in the city centre, managing the front of house, keeping members happy and promoting the space using social media and other digital means. This opened my eyes to a a whole new way of working.
On returning to Dorset, I decided she wanted more. After seeing a gap in the Dorset market for small business support, I wanted to bring a bit of the city to the country and introduce the world of Virtual to the community, so decided to launch as a Virtual Assistant. After only 6 months I was at full capacity and couldn't take on any more clients.
In January 2019 I took the decision to launch a Licence (similar to a franchise) to help other individuals who wanted to set out as a self-employed Virtual Assistant do just that using The Contemporary PA branding, and the tried and tested model that I used to grow my business. I am proud to say we are now a national brand with 8 licensees in Dorset, Hampshire and Newcastle.
Also, big believers in small businesses and how important they are for our communities, The Contemporary PA launched a networking event #TakeoverTuesday in Dorchester where start-ups and freelancers can work alongside each other one day a month and learn from one another, as let’s face it, being a solo-preneur can be lonely at times.
The Contemporary PA supports small businesses and start-ups with administration and digital tasks, allowing them to spend their time on growing their businesses. Our ad-hoc and flexible approach makes us truly accessible for businesses at all stages throughout a business’s life.
Since launching in 2017, The Contemporary PA have assisted with businesses of all shapes and sizes from sole traders to established companies, and even have some well-known celebrities on our books.
